Before You Begin
Before starting compounded semaglutide, your licensed provider will conduct a thorough evaluation that includes:
- Review of your medical history and current medications
- Assessment of whether FDA-approved semaglutide (Ozempic® or Wegovy®) can meet your medical needs
- Documentation of medical necessity if compounded semaglutide is prescribed
- Determination of your starting dose and titration schedule
IMPORTANT: Sprout Health offers compounded semaglutide, which is prepared by state-licensed pharmacies.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not verify the safety, effectiveness, or quality of compounded drugs before they are marketed.
FDA-approved semaglutide products (such as Ozempic® and Wegovy®) are available through traditional healthcare providers. Compounded semaglutide should only be used when an FDA-approved medication cannot meet your specific medical needs.
Your provider will determine if compounded semaglutide is appropriate for your individual situation.
Your First Shipment
When your medication arrives:

- Refrigerate immediately at 36-46°F (2-8°C) unless otherwise directed
- Review all included materials – injection instructions, dosing information, and disposal guidelines
Dosing Safety
Compounded semaglutide may be available in different concentrations than FDA-approved products.
Before your first injection:
- Verify the concentration of your medication (mg/mL) with your prescription.
- Confirm your prescribed dose in milligrams (mg)
- Understand the correct volume to draw in your syringe
- Don’t confuse “units” marked on insulin-style syringes with milligrams (mg)
If you’re uncertain about any aspect of measuring or administering your dose, contact your clinician and support team before injection. Our customer support agents are available to help escalate any questions or concerns you may have.
What to Expect
- Your provider will typically start you at a lower dose and gradually increase it (titration) to reduce side effects. If you are switching from another vendor and would like to continue on your previous dose, please discuss your options with your provider.
- Nausea is the most commonly reported side effect when starting treatment. It typically improves as your body adjusts
- Follow all dietary and lifestyle guidance provided by your care team
- Do not adjust your dose without consulting your provider
